For Malala

Some girls can’t go to school.

They stay home to cook and clean.

They have many hours of work each day.

Education is a dream.

Some girls can’t ride the bus.

They’re in danger on the street.

They deserve hope and protection.

Their futures seem incomplete.

Some girls can’t play freely.

They stand and sit, never run.

They need strength and health.

Why don’t we nurture each one?

Some girls can’t sleep safely.

They shake with dark fear at night.

They listen for danger and footsteps.

Unsafe homes will never be right.

Some girls can’t stop reaching.

They know their stars are far.

They need our brave, strong wisdom.

Help them, wherever you are.

Let's take better care of girls everywhere! Let's nurture each other everywhere!
